To be or not to be, EMPLOYED!

In this blog post, I hope to generate some thinking around a huge world wide question on almost everyone's lips since the pandemic or even maybe before it... "Should I seek employment or create my own income; hmmm".

Traditionally the mid range human being will try complete school and further education to the highest possible level depending on life's circumstances, during or after which the process of getting a job (seeking employment) will need to begin in order to earn an income to survive or become "rich".

In today's modern society many have lost employment due to the pandemic, which is causing quite a lot of hunger and strife in communities over and above recent natural disasters.

Neighbours, friends and families try help the situation by constant donations, food supply and emotional support etc.

The rate of depression has increased by around 25% since this pandemic started, for some all hope is lost and for others more hope is gained... This is where we are heading!

How can hope be gained in these times, how can an individual set their own future in motion, what does future look like and what would it take?

Most people, if not everyone has a little something inside them that longs for more, more of what exactly, we don't even know, we can't quite put our finger on what that longing is for.

While it may be many things to many people in many different places of life, I do believe every person has something inside them that is able to drive their joyful reason for being alive. I am not referring to food here, but to something so simple that if we could discover it and apply it we can live off loving what we do for a living and be a total success because of the fulfillment we might get from it.

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life" Prov.13:12

I am referring to an individual's talents and natural abilities. Yes, while we all think that might be something extravagant that will send shiny & colourful fireworks into the air when discovered, we are missing the big discovery because it may be hiding in plain sight and be so natural to our daily lives that we might not even recognize it.

So lets get to the real "Aha moment"

What is your simple, natural ability, your secret super power that generates joy and you can action it in your sleep because you are so good at it? Can this super power also generate a happy income and a hopeful future.

Would it be possible to recognize this in others and offer the encouragement they need for their abilities to become their possibilities.

I do believe we were created with unique and mysteriously wonderful talents for good reason, no talent or ability is greater or more beneficial than another but rather more valuable when two or more are benefiting each other and are able to create amazing and powerful changes in the world we live in.

Here below is a list of some talents and abilities with examples we can find in just about anyone if we just look closely enough and let it be the reason to encourage the great need of them in society.

Here we go...

Precision - Hand and Eye co-ordination is something of great worth and the different career possibilities that can be accompanied by such a talent is almost endless, apply knowledge and there you go.

Strategy - Being strategic can mean intelligence in many industries.

Carpentry - Wood working seems like a really daunting and boring job in thought, but if you have the talent and can manufacture finely crafted musical instruments in a country where it is not available, you could pretty much own that region of business success. i.e. There are no manufacturers of Harps in South Africa and all instruments in this category are imported.

Endurance - Ever thought of how people are rescued from the high mountain tops in hiking situations etc. you could be the next hero.

Cooking - Many people can cook, we get it. But others are born with it, we're talking about the flavoursome talent of naturally matching ingredients.

The worst thing about following a recipe from a cooking show or book is when it comes out and you wonder to yourself "where the flavours ran off to" or "did they say "rich flavours" while forcing down a bland dish of disappointment. This is a valued talent indeed.

Baking - Hello world! This is by far one epic talent that as long as there are birthdays you can earn income, combine this with some colourful techniques and you will soon find your vibe heating up tremendously.

Knitting - I know, embarrassing - grandma's do this, but, what if you could add your natural ability of knitting or crocheting to some beautiful modern patterns, you will soon be the go to on instagram when the wind of winter starts blowing.

Sewing - All mommies can sew, we know this. Can they sew up intricate wedding or ball gowns, if you have it and the price is right you will be up to your knees in threads.

Electronics - We all love electronic gadgets, or do we? Most of us can't even figure out how to use some of these fancy devices available today, if you simply provide advice you can make it big time.

Gaming, yes gaming is a thing. What a fun talent to behold, most console and pc gamers have lots of experience and their good but that's it, they just don't get things done like you, they just don't understand completely or you need to hack that game to your speed. You could become many things in the industry of gaming if you are an expert gamer and wiggle into the right crowd with tact.

Strength – Being able to lift heavy weights, could be a useful talent in the search and rescue industry as well, so there you go - another hero could be embarking somewhere.

Compassion - This world is so cold, I mean people don't care like they used to and therefore there is a huge need for this ability in the world today, especially in the younger generation.

Linguistics - Where to start, this is by far a specialty talent that if unlocked with the right study materials can become a very well sought after service in many areas of society.

Fitness - Hey mama, you can't get enough stretches done in a day, this one's for you. You could encourage so many people with your habits, Technique and know how. I mean since lock down we all doubled in hip size and became S L O W you know.

Healthy eating habits - Again a great need in all of society, while some people watch their health and what they consume, others haven't a cooking clue and neither know where to begin, you would be a great help in leading situations like this.

Innovative - Convenience is key in this rushed life of work and play debates, you could just invent the next best thing to help us all spend more time doing what matters, think about it, go think long and hard.

Leadership skills - No not being bossy, that's not the one. If you are able to try things to show others, leading by example for the bettering of others and respecting the growth of others along with strategy and commitment, you might just have all it takes.

Driving skills - Hot pursuit or licence pursuit you are needed.

A peoples person - So many people to connect with, so many personalities but it is not for everyone. Do you just get people, you could be so many things to so many people just by adding your flair or even an extreme negotiator.

Solving puzzles - Much like the strategy talent many can think and others need someone to think for them, you could solve crucial life puzzles in the right place.

Creative - Too many things can be your income, you can literally make money from nothing like an entrepreneurial magician.

The ability to create something from nothing - This is another mastering ability, a piece of junk is nothing until it falls into the right hands and just like Cinderella is transformed into a priceless treasure.

Public speaking - This takes huge courage for most people, if you have this skill you can fill an arena and download information that might benefit others.

Reading - You could become Siri's assistant with this skill. Seriously! No jokes!

Story telling - I just don't get it, until the right person puts the right words into the right tone and there we go, the lights just turn on. This is a gift to make others understand something more clearly is absolutely magical and a definite need.

Writing - This talent is beneficial in so many ways and can practically serve many incredible needs from paperback books to online information.

Fashion forward - Not just a pretty face, huh? You might not be the best fashionista but rather a wardrobe expert with the magic at hand that we all need to put our best forward.

Great memory - You can teach others with any vast knowledge you acquire. You can acquire knowledge from everywhere these days, almost seems like it's unlimited but not in everyone's reach.

Humorous - Laughter therapy is a real thing and so is stand up comedy, but aside from all this there are many more applications for humor in a variety of industries.

Typing - We live in an era of data, data, data - say no more that if you can type you can work for anyone, anywhere in the world. The online world revolves around data.

and on, and on it goes

Remain still for long

Hold your breath

Incredible Patience

Listening

Learning

Summarising

Organised

Teaching and demonstrating

Persuasion

Great Escape artist

Good Voice

Good Looks

Availability

Child care

Frail care

Special needs

Hospitality

Parenting

Companionship

Finances

Fearless

Geographical

Musician

Painting

Repairman

Gardening and plants

etc.... and on and on

All these skills could be turned into a niche small business almost over night.

Now while we could understand some of these more than others, there is definitely a need in all communities for at least one of, or even more of all these talents and abilities.

Valuing ourselves enough to be inspired by our own talents in order to make an income from doing what we love isn't always as easy as it sounds, in fact it is very scary to think about, however it is possible and once discovered and applied could mean the definite life changing experience someone could have been longing for.

"But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it."

1 Corinthians 12:18‭-‬26

And so therefore, I believe everyone has a very specific role to play in society.
